Kew Gardens' Anniversary draws big names

New attractions set for Kew in 2009

TV Gardener to design setting for Kew

This year sees the 250th anniversary of London’s beautiful Kew Gardens, and to celebrate the prestigious attraction has called in TV gardener Diarmuid Gavin to create a garden for them for 2009.

Located near the main gate, the garden will welcome visitors to the London tourism hot spot, but that is not all they will be able to see.

Visitors can also enjoy a dramatic Tropical Extravaganza, designed by Kew’s horticultural staff, which features orchids and insectivorous plants, including pitcher plants Nepenthes.

However, it is not only exotic flora that will take centre stage in the Gardens in 2009. UK native flowers will be celebrated in the Main Gate area; with a display including magical native orchids and other wildflowers such as the reintroduction of a Thames Valley native – wild clary (Salvia verbenacea).

Family activities during the Spring, Summer and Autumn holidays will feature in the celebratory calendar of events, so even younger members of the family can join in RBG, Kew’s birthday celebrations.
