Caravanner and Trendsetter

It was great to open up the Sunday Times holiday supplement last weekend and be greeted by a huge picture of a shiny Airstream, and even better to flip the page and find The Times' Christy Campbell getting away from it all in a Swift Challenger.
Admitteldly, he seemed to have a couple of entertaining teething problems with adjusting to caravanning life - one involving the contents of a chilli sauce bottle in his sleeping bag - but all in all it sounded like he had a great time.
I think the recent prominence of our much-loved hobby is reflective of changing trends and it says a lot about how peoples attitudes are changing. For example, there wasn't a listing of 50 top Bed and Breakfasts in the country or 50 affordable hotel deals on the market. No, there was 50 campsites recommended by our friend David Bellamy.
Some of them I've visited, some of them I haven't. One thing's for sure, it's going to be a busy summer for all of us. If you're worried that you've missed out on David Bellamy's favoured spots do not fear, just visit www.parkholidayengland.org.uk/bellamy.
Don't forget we've also got our top 101 sites coming out in the July issue, so come summer, you'll have more recommended sites than you'll know what to do with.
